“The Power of the Crowd” is a concept we are all certainly becoming increasingly familiar with I’m sure. And our Startup of The Week this week is not just familiar with the concept – they have created a business from the power of the crowd.
Great Little Place is an innovative crowdsourcing startup which is aiming to help the world find those often elusive and hidden gems in our favourite cities. Whether it’s a bar or restaurant that is off the beaten track or a little known art gallery that isn’t yet featured in the traditional tourist guides, for your next visit to an unknown city, this site should be your first choice when planning your trip.
Initially starting as a Facebook page, allowing people to recommend and share their favourite haunts in London, Great Little Place amassed 40,000 fans in just 2 weeks! The “crowd” really bought into the idea, readily sharing their favourite places and suggesting other cities for people to learn about and explore. It then developed into a website and started to expand its’ offering and now has a presence in over 100 cities.
Great Little Place is a world away from the traditional guide book – and is all the better for it! Local, personal knowledge and a real sense of community is the order of the day here.
At TheEmployable we love the whole “by the people , for the people” philosophy that it embodies.
A new site is being launched shortly and in the new year there are plans for some location based mobile apps. In the meantime, whether you are one of those looking for a Great Little Place somewhere or could perhaps help other users out by suggesting new places or whether you are simply curious about this innovative and charming startup , check out the site here . Hope you love it as much as we do.
