Could you be the next big Social Entrepreneur? – Sir Richard Branson wants to know….

Not so very long ago, the word “entrepreneur” immediately conjured up images of an innovative, driven and ambitious individual, who deemed success to be relative to the size of his or her bank balance. The rise in the Social Entrepreneur has thankfully put paid to that. More and more people are out there channeling their passions into businesses that are all about addressing major social issues and problems.  Success for these entrepreneurs is more about bringing about real and positive changes, that benefit us all. And at TheEmployable we love nothing more than hearing about people doing just that. In the light of this, we are today highlighting a competition which Sir Richard Branson has recently launched to help him find the next big Social or Ethical Entrepreneur.

This competition is part of his “Screw Business as Usual” movement and “Virgin Unite” mission which aims to encourage businesses to become a force for good in the world.

Who can Enter?

Competition entrants can come from:
– any organisation which has a social enterprise ethos
– a concept which could help transform a business into becoming a force for good
– any new ideas which could help people or our planet on a local or global level

How to Enter?

You can enter by uploading your idea or business concept at the Virgin Unite website, here, either as a short video or a written pitch.

The prize?

Every month, the top 5 entries with the most “votes” or social shares will each receive a prize. The top 10 ideas as voted by the community by 17th April 2012 will then be evaluated by a judging committee and the Grand Prize winner selected. Their prize will be a Connection Trip with Virgin Unite and Sir Richard to South Africa where they will meet front-line leaders and fledgling entrepreneurs.

If you have an idea for something that can help bring about something good, then what’s stopping you! Get your entry in now and best of luck!

If you are looking to start your own business, think you have a creative idea or you are a self starting business champion then find out more about Startacus the online community celebrating the self starter – launching soon…

  1. OK then, you have thrown down the gauntlet. So now some of us have to respond. In the meantime, what a refreshing change to read guidelines to a competition for funds that are to-the-point, concise, plainly-worded and not bound about with the funder’s self-serving qualifications and constraints.
