5 Ways to Stay Positive when Job Searching

If you’ve been searching for a job for a while and been getting rejection emails or letters galore, it’s pretty understandable that you may be feeling a little down, to say the least. job searchRejection is never easy to deal with at the best of times and when it relates to something as important as getting a job it can be even harder. How you cope though is what really matters. So, if your job search has been difficult of late, these basic tips should help – here are 5 Ways to Stay Positive when Job Searching.

Organise your job search

If you’ve been spending every waking moment applying for jobs and it’s been getting you nowhere, it’s time to sit back and take stock. Refresh the batteries as it were and start creating a job search strategy for the future. Whether that means being disciplined and only searching for work at set times or reviewing the places that you look for a job or whatever, it’s essential to shake things up a little. Get organised and create a proper plan and then stick to it.

Start Volunteering

Voluntary work can be one of the most rewarding things that you could ever do – not in terms of financial remuneration admittedly, but certainly in terms of the positive mindset it can bring. Since much voluntary work is undertaken in the charity or third sectors, you may find that the impact of any voluntary work you undertake has a far-reaching and enormous impact on someone else’s life or on the wider community in general. This in turn of course can be a real mood enhancer for you.

Do what you love

How many times when you have been working did you yearn for some free time to do something that you really enjoyed? The answer quite probably is many times! It’s important therefore to take advantage of the free time which you may now have and to fill it with worthwhile activities, doing things that you genuinely enjoy. Having a distraction from simply looking for jobs can be extremely worthwhile.  Also, who knows? Perhaps your hobby could develop into something so much more. More and more businesses these days are starting from the kitchen table or garage. Maybe yours could too!

Look after yourself

When you’re feeling a little low, it’s more important than ever to become a little self indulgent and make you your priority. Eating properly, taking some exercise and having plenty of rest can all be major factors in lightening your mood. It’s essential that you remember this and take the time to focus on all the basic elements which can often get ignored or dismissed. It’s at times such as these that it’s even more important to look after yourself, be a little self-indulgent even as this can all go towards boosting that ever necessary self-esteem.

Don’t be alone

Looking for a job can be a pretty solitary activity, but it needn’t be. Rather than spending all your time alone looking for a job, why not see if there are any job clubs or groups that you could join. Check your local jobcentre or employment training organisation – there may be meetups that you could attend which not only will help with practical job search skills, but also will help with improving your mindset. Sharing tips and experiences with other people in the same boat can be a big advantage and being part of a group like this can also be one of the best ways you can get motivated too.
