Interview Nerves – TheEmployable’s Top Tips

Relax beforehand

Try your best to get rid of some tension by relaxing as much as possible either the evening or morning before your interview. Do what works best for you, go for a walk, have a relaxing bath, listen to music, whatever is your thing. Also, don’t underestimate the power that a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast will have on how fresh and ready you will feel for your interview.

Give yourself time

Plan well in advance how long it is going to take you to get to the interview. Make sure you know exactly where you are going and give yourself plenty of time to get there. Always factor in things like the a car puncture, traffic or public transport delays. Make sure that you have time to spare so that should any of those unfortunate things arise, you still arrive in plenty of time.

Remember – they need you

The one thing most interviewees forget is that the reason they are in that interview. Yes, you need a job, but remember, that company needs you. They have a vacancy, a need within their business and based on your CV or application form, they feel that you could be exactly what they need. That is why you are there. Changing the way you look at the interview can actually help you minimise any nervousness. If you view the interview as your opportunity to prove you are the answer or solution to that company’s needs, you are immediately putting yourself in a more positive mindset. And that in turn will help you feel more confident and less nervous.
