The best Hobbies and Interests for your CV

Drama / Dramatics / Performance
Being able to put a ‘company face’ on, is a valuable skills and asset. Anyone who has to work in a customer facing environment, present to others, or sell to the general public, can use their ‘dramatic’ experience to great effect. Therefore having a hobby that relates to performance; be it acting, dancing, singing, can be a valuable hobby to highlight on your CV.

Something that makes you stand out
Not just running, but running a Marathon; not just charity work, but you raised 10k; not just playing the guitar, you created an album with your friends, Not just that you paint, but that you exhibited your work in a local art gallery…The list goes on, but in reality what you are looking to do is sell your achievements, not just recall them.

Why? Because it means you have character, it means you have a story and it means that you may add something unique to a team if you were hired!

There are plenty of other hobbies and interests that could be added to this list, and perhaps the lesson here, is that it is not necessarily what you do, but how you sell it on your CV that can mean that your hobbies and interests make you more employable as an applicant.

  1. Excellent article.

I always take clients hobbies and interests into account if they involve transferable skills. I once wrote a CV for a nurse who hadn’t considered that her volunteering for the Red Cross was relevant! Absolutely it was.
